Dalmore
A Celebrated Highland Distillery with a Decription of Its Surroundings
By Alfred Barnard
First published c1898 this unique booklet was one of the first whisky corporate brochures of the late Victorian era. The author Alfred Barnard was already well-known in the whisky world having published the seminal guide The Whisky Distilleries of the United Kingdom in 1887. That book led to him receiving a number of commissions from the trade to create publications designed specifically to promote their own distilleries.
At that time Dalmore Distillery was well renowned as one of the finest and progressive Highland malt distilleries and formed part of the 500-acre Dalmore estate of the Mackenzie family. They were typical of many landowners of the time who managed large estates for raising livestock and pursuing country sports. Thier Aberdeen Angus herd was prizewinning and their whisky was also held in as high a regard as it is today.
Illustrated throughout this is a remarkable memoir of Dalmore and is very much of its time.
