A Ramble Round The Globe Revisited
In The Footsteps of Tommy Dewar
By Malcolm Greenwood
In the late 1890s one of the great Scotch whisky barons, Sir Tommy Dewar, made a three-year sales trip around the world to set up agencies and exploit the popularity of Scotch whisky. This trip laid the foundation that has made Dewars the No 1 selling Scotch in the USA.
He wrote of his travels in a volume entitled A Ramble Around The Globe and in this book, Malcolm Greenwood has followed as closely as possible the route taken by Dewar. In doing so he makes a remarkable journey into the whisky trade in each country he visits and is able to recount tales both funny and peculiar. Above all there are remarkable contrasts between the world Dewar saw and the one Greenwood experiences, but when it come to Scotch, little seems to have altered: it is still the world's most convivial and popular spirit. Illustrated by the acclaimed Swedish cartoonist Erik Foseid, this book is a charming and entertaining travelogue which will appeal to whisky enthusiasts everywhere.
